MARCH REPORT FROM SANDWICH TOWN COUNCILLOR, MARTYN PENNINGTON

Bus stop by the Guildhall, Sandwich

Martyn Pennington reports:

RECEPTION FOR VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS: On 26 March, the Mayor hosted a reception for the leaders of the main voluntary organisations in Sandwich which I attended. These organisations are vital for the life of the community in Sandwich, meeting all sorts of needs. Sadly, most of the funding from Kent and Dover councils has dried up over the last few years, so important organisations, like those helping the elderly, disabled and young people, are starved of resources. Often their hard work as volunteers goes unnoticed by the general public, so events like this reception give them the recognition which is richly deserve.

BUS STOP BY THE GUILDHALL, SANDWICH: At the Town Council meeting on 25 March, I raised the issue of the dangerous placement of the Guildhall bus stop with Sandwich’s Kent County Councillor. Sadly, she was unable to bring any news of progress in resolving the issue.  This is an accident waiting to happen.
