Dover & Deal Liberal Democrats’ Annual Lunch, October 14, 2023

Joshua Babarinde OBE, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Eastbourne was the guest speak at the Dover & Deal Liberal Democrats’ Annual Lunch on Saturday October 14, 2023, at Ash Village Hall, Ash.

Josh was awarded an OBE for services to criminal justice, social enterprise and the economy in 2020 at the age of 26. He has been identified by Forbes Magazine, the influential American business magazine, as one of the top young social entrepreneurs in Europe as part of their 30 under 30.

Josh spoke about the need for urgent change in our politics, that people should be able to achieve their goals, without relying on luck.  “Luck shouldn’t come into it”, he said.  “As a Liberal Democrat I believe everyone should have the opportunity to grow and thrive no matter what their circumstances, religion, gender or race. As a Liberal Democrat I want to create a fair, free and open society in which the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community are fairly balanced.”

Josh also spoke about his challenge to Conservative MPs over the sewage crisis in our waterways and coastlines, how we must change the reliance on foodbanks, how Liberal Democrats have concrete plans to support people through the cost of living crisis, to provide the housing that people need and in the right places, to rescue the NHS and ensure we have proper community policing on our streets.
