Do take time to complete the survey, especially if you live in the Deal and Walmer area and surrounding villages, to ensure we get the community health care provision needed.  It is really important that you have your say and that your voice is heard, otherwise we are likely to lose more services from our local hospital, or, indeed, lose it altogether.

The Closing Date for Return of the Survey is April 1, 2022!

More about our Deal Victoria Hospital Campaign:

deal hospital

As you may know, your local Dover & Deal Lib Dem party has been campaigning about the closure of services at Victoria Memorial Hospital in Deal for over a year now.  We in the Dover & Deal Liberal Democrats have been voicing our concern that the closure of the Phlebotomy Service (blood tests), which was transferred to GP surgeries at the end of October 2021 with no public consultation, was just the thin end of the wedge.

We have also highlighted that:

  • the Diabetic Eye Screening Unit has already been moved to Kent & Canterbury, QEQM and William Harvey Hospitals;
  • the Minor Injuries Unit has been changed, essentially, to a ‘by-appointment’ service;
  • and the X-Ray department is only open until 6pm.

What will be next?  Does this removal of services signal the eventual closure of the Hospital?

Dover & Deal Liberal Democrats have joined the cross-party campaign to ensure Deal Hospital remains open and serves its local community.  The campaign has been led by local health champions Marsha Horne and Anne Matthews as well as town, district and county councillors of all political parties.

The Cross-Party Consultation, is being undertaken to ascertain the issues which are important to local residents when it comes to community health care provision.  It will only take a couple of minutes to complete.

Unfortunately, the online survey is being hosted on Nathalie Elphicke MP’s personal website You may not wish to provide your email address or other personal details to this site as they may be stored and used for her future campaigning.

The Victoria Memorial Hospital was built by public subscription to honour the dead of Deal following the Great War and was designed to supply medical care to those who could not afford it in the 1920s when the NHS did not exist. Now, as part of the NHS, we believe it needs to continue to be allowed to fulfil its role in catering for the fast-growing population of Deal, Walmer and surrounding villages, rather than seeing its services being cut.

The Closing Date for Return of the Survey is April 1, 2022
